NEVER FAIL CUPCAKES 
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. butter or lard, melted and cooled
1/2 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. hot water
1/4 tsp. salt

Put ingredients into bowl in order given. Do not mix until last item has been added. Beat well. Bake in moderate oven in muffin tins. Frost or serve with whipped cream.
