ENGLISH TRIFLE 
1 pkg. lady fingers (if unavailable, use pound cake cut into slices)
1/4 to 1/2 c. sherry (optional)
Firm fruit, such as strawberries, raspberries, peaches, etc., cut in bite size pieces
Jam or jelly (flavor you desire, contrasting or matching the fruit)
1 sm. pkg. Jello (correspond to jam flavor)
1 sm. pkg. custard or French vanilla pudding
1 pt. whipping cream
Powdered sugar
Slivered almonds

Spread jam on lady fingers (cut side, sandwich together). Line a trifle bowl or deep serving bowl with the cake, bottom and sides. Sprinkle with sherry, if desired. Add fruit.

Prepare Jello according to package directions and pour over cake and fruit. Chill until set.

Prepare custard according to package directions. Pour over Jello layer. Chill until set.

Before serving, whip cream and powdered sugar. Top trifle with whipped cream. Garnish with slivered almonds and reserved fruit.
