BROWN BREAD 
2 c. scalded milk
2 tbsp. shortening
2 c. water
2 tbsp. sugar or more
2 pkg. yeast
1 egg
1 c. molasses
Flour
1 c. raisins
Walnuts, cut

Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of water. Pour scalded milk over shortening. Add molasses and water; cool. Add egg and yeast to milk mixture, then dry ingredients, raisins and walnuts. Let rise until double. Punch down and shape into loaves. Let rise. Start baking at 350 degrees, decrease heat gradually. Bake about 1 hour.
