MOLASSES CRINKLES 
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
Sugar

Cream together shortening, butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses, blend well. Sift together flour, soda, ginger, cloves and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Mix well. Chill dough 1 hour. Shape dough in balls size of walnuts. Dip tops in sugar. Place sugar side up about 3 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Bake in 375 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until done. Remove from baking sheet. Cool on racks. Makes about 4 dozen.
