CROSS CUT PICKLE SLICES 
6 lb. sliced cucumbers (4 qts.)
1 lb. sm. white onions
2 lg. cloves of garlic
1/3 c. salt (not iodized)
2 trays ice - cubes or crushed
4 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed
3 c. white vinegar

Wash cucumbers with vegetable brush, drain and slice (18 to 1/4 inch slices) discarding ends. Add sliced onions and salt - mix thoroughly. Place garlic cloves in and cover thoroughly. Place garlic cloves in and cover with ice cubes or crushed ice. Let stand 3 hours. Drain thoroughly and remove garlic cloves. Combine sugar, spices and vinegar - heat to boiling. Add drained cucumbers and onions. Bring to boil. Remove from heat and place in jars and seal.
