BAKLAVA 
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. water
1 tsp. lemon juice (or 1/2 lemon)

Bring to full boil at medium/high heat and then remove and let cool.

Mix: 1/4 c. sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon

Set aside. 3/4 lb. melted butter

1. Cut fillo in half crosswise. Put sheets (leaves) together.

2. Count out 10 sheets. Set aside and cover with damp towel (always keep fillo covered).

3. In 9x11 inch pan, layer 10 sheets of fillo, brushing butter between each sheet.

4. Sprinkle handful of nut mixture over fillo.

5. Place on 3 more sheets of fillo, buttering between each one.

6. Sprinkle with nut mixture and repeat, layering 3 sheets (buttering each) and handful of nuts until everything but reserved 10 sheets are used.

7. Layer and butter remaining fillo.

8. Before baking, cut baklava into 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch squares. Cut each square into 2 triangles.

9. Bake until golden brown in 350 degree F. oven for about 45 minutes.

10. Remove from oven. Pour cooled syrup over hot baklava immediately. Let cool.
