PLAIN POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
3 c. plain flour
5 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. lemon
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. Crisco

Mix all dry ingredients; blend butter and Crisco with dry ingredients. Add eggs and milk; cook in tube pan 1 hour at 325 degrees. Test with toothpick; cake is done when toothpick comes out clean.

CARAMEL ICING:

1/2 c. butter or 1 stick butter
1 c. packed dark brown sugar
1/4 c. canned milk
2 c. confectioners sugar

Melt butter and brown sugar on stove. Boil on low heat for 2 minutes; then add milk and let it come to boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and let cool. Add confectioners sugar and beat until smooth.
