MOM'S GREAT CHILI 
1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 (10 oz.) can tomato puree
1 (15 oz.) can kidney beans (hot chili beans if desired)
1 onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 toe garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. brown sugar
3 tbsp. chili powder
1/2 c. catsup
Red hot pepper flakes (dash)
Grated Cheddar cheese

Brown meat in oil. Drain. Add onion and garlic. Cook until tender. Add tomato puree and kidney and/or chili beans, including liquid. Rinse both cans with water and add water to mixture. Stir in all other ingredients.

Simmer chili for 2-3 hours, stirring periodically. (Use 1/2 can flat beer if desired.) Double the ingredients and you have plenty for a large family gathering.

Sprinkle grated cheese on each serving for a great addition. Serve with your favorite crackers.
