SOUTHERN STYLE BEETS 
4 c. sliced cooked beets
4 med. onions, peeled and sliced
3/4 c. sugar
4 tbsp. butter
3 tsp. cornstarch
1/3 c. white vinegar
1/4 c. water
1/2 c. scuppernong wine
Sprinkle of salt and pepper

In a frying pan simmer onions in butter until tender. DON'T BROWN. Add cornstarch to water and add white vinegar, sugar, and wine until blended. Salt and pepper to taste, stirring well. Add the beets to onions and cornstarch mixture. Simmer until it thickens. Let sit for at least an hour.
