CHEESE STRATA 
12 slices white bread
3/4 lb. American cheese, sliced
2 c. finely diced cooked ham
6 slightly beaten eggs
3 1/2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
2 tbsp. dehydrated, minced onion (optional)

Trim all edges from bread slices. Cut 12 inch doughnuts and holes from bread; set aside. Fit bread scraps in bottom of 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Place cheese in a layer over bread; add layer of ham. Arrange bread doughnuts and holes on top. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over bread and all. Cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight. Bake, uncovered, at 325 degrees for 35 minutes for a pretty finish. Sprinkle with shredded cheese 5 minutes before end of baking time. Before cutting into squares, let stand out 10 minutes to firm up. Serves 12.
