OLD FASHIONED BAKED BEANS 
2 c. Great Northern white beans
1 1/2 qt. water
1 tbsp. salt
3 c. tomato juice
1/2 c. granulated or brown sugar
1/4 c. butter

Bring beans and water to a boil. Boil 5 minutes. Turn off heat for 1 hour. Bring to a boil again. Turn heat on low and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until beans are tender. Add tomato juice, salt and sugar, blending well. Pour into a bean pot or heavy baking dish. Add butter and bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours or until thick as desired.
