STRAWBERRY SHORT CAKE 
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. sugar
5 tbsp. shortening
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 qt. strawberries

Sift flour, salt and 3/4 cup sugar together, work in shortening. Combine milk and vanilla. Add enough milk to dry ingredients to make a soft dough. Flour dough so it will be manageable. Pat out into a 10"x12" round pan. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for about 15 minutes. Remove from pan and split butter cake while hot. Mash strawberries, add remaining sugar. Put part of strawberries between layers. Put strawberries left over on top. Serve with whipped topping.
