BISCUITS SUPREME | |
2 c. sifted flour 4 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 c. shortening (use butter flavor Crisco) 2/3 c. milk Sift together first 5 ingredients using a pastry blender. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in center; add milk all at once. Stir just until dough clings together (mixture will be sticky and soft). Turn onto floured surface. Sprinkle with flour. Knead gently 10-12 strokes. Roll or pat 1/2 inch thick; cut into biscuits. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 8 large 3-inch biscuits. |
