CHERRY SHEET COOKIES 
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 egg yolks (save the whites)
2/3 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Sift together first four ingredients. Add sugar and shortening and mix like a pie crust. Add yolks, milk, and vanilla, mixing well.

FILLING:

3 cans sour pitted cherries
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. tapioca
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter
1 c. cherry juice

(Make filling first and let stand while preparing remainder of the recipe.) Combine juice, sugar, brown sugar, tapioca, and salt and cook until thickened. Add rest of ingredients, cool. Take half of dough into sheet, spread on the filling and cover with remaining dough. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour in 350 degree oven. Brush on whites of eggs, sprinkle with ground nuts after removing from oven, then bake again for 5 minutes. Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
