ITALIAN COCONUT CAKE 
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
5 egg yolks
5 beaten egg whites
2 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 small can coconut
1 cup chopped nuts

Cream sugar, butter, shortening and egg yolks. Add vanilla and buttermilk and mix well. Add flour, soda and mix well. Add coconut and nuts, then fold in the beaten egg whites. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool and frost with:

ICING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/4 cup butter, soft
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 box powdered sugar
1/2 cup nuts

Cream the cheese and butter together. Add vanilla, sugar and nuts; mix well.
