ORANGES IN WINE 
Simplicity itself, and delicious.

4 navel oranges, peeled and sliced
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 c. red wine
2 cloves
1 stick cinnamon
2 slices lemon
2 slices tangerine

Place orange slices in layers in a deep glass dish. Refrigerate. Combine the remaining ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes (or longer). Remove cloves and cinnamon stick. Cool slightly and pour sauce over the orange slices. Refrigerate. Serve very cold, pouring a little additional syrup over each serving. Yield: 4-6 servings.
