OLD FASHIONED STACK CAKE
5-6 c. self rising flour
2 c. sugar
2 whole eggs, beaten
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk

Sift 4 cups flour into large mixing bowl. Make a "well" in center. Pour in sugar, beaten eggs, shortening, butter and vanilla. Add buttermilk gradually, working all ingredients into flour. Add more flour until a stiff dough is formed. Chill for at least 30 minutes. In a greased and floured pan, place a small ball of dough and pat out to cover bottom of pan. (This will be real thin.) Bake at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan and cool. Repeat until all dough is used. Will make 9 to 11 layers. Stack with cooked and sweetened, mashed dried apples. Let set for 2 or 3 days to soak layers. For 1 cake I cut recipe in half.
