ARKANSAS DATE BREAD | |
1 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. whole wheat flour 1 c. bran 1/2 c. chopped dates 1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts 1 egg, lightly beaten 1/2 c. unsulphured molasses 1 1/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1 1/2 tbsp. butter, melted Combine first 5 ingredients. Blend in the dates and nuts. In a separate bowl, combine the egg, molasses, milk and butter. Stir the 2 mixtures together thoroughly, pour into a greased loaf pan (8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches) and bake at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until bread tests done. Remove from oven, let stand a few minutes, then turn the loaf out on a rack. |
