MOM'S HOMEMADE ICE CREAM 
3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
7 tbsp. cornstarch
3 tbsp. vanilla
5 egg yolks, beaten
5 c. milk (whole milk)
1 can Pet milk

Mix sugar, salt, and cornstarch in 5 quart pan. Mix milk and egg yolks; add to sugar mixture, then add vanilla. Heat over medium heat to make a pudding. Boil about 5 minutes (this takes the starchy taste out). Pour through strainer into ice cream tin. Add Pet milk and regular milk to "fill" line. If needed, add more sugar. (You will want the mixture to be really sweet because when it freezes, it is not as sweet.) Then prepare according to ice cream freezer directions. Serves 10 to 15.

For an extra treat, add a fresh fruit - bananas, strawberries, peaches, raspberries, etc. - to pudding, after straining.
