OLD FASHIONED OATMEAL COOKIES 
3 c. rolled oats
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut
1 c. nuts, chopped

Mix oatmeal, coconut and nuts. In separate bowl, cream sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Add flour; mix well. Gradually add nut mixture. Dip by spoonfuls the size of a walnut onto a greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly; sprinkle with sugar. Flatten again with palm of the hand to make very thin. Bake 10-11 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 5 dozen.
