DATE WALNUT BARS 
PASTRY:

1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/3 c. sugar

TOPPING:

1/3 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. chopped nuts
1 (8 oz.) pkg. chopped dates (about 1 c.)

PASTRY: Combine ingredients and blend to fine crumbs. Pack into bottom of greased 9" square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, until edges are lightly browned.

TOPPING: Combine sugars, eggs and vanilla; beat well. Sift dry ingredients and add to first mixture. Stir in nuts and dates. Pour over hot baked pastry. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool in pan and sprinkle top with powdered sugar. Cut into bars.
