ORANGE BUTTERMILK CAKE 
1 orange
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 stick (1/4 c.) butter
2 eggs
2 c. cake flour, sifted
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grate rind of orange. Cut orange in half, extract juice, and put it into a small bowl with 1/2 cup sugar. Set aside.

Cream butter with remaining 1 cup of sugar until light. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt together. Add to the creamed mixture.

Add orange rind, dry ingredients and milk alternately, ending with flour. Mix until blended.

Pour into a lightly greased and floured 8 or 9-inch pan. Bake 35-45 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool 15 minutes. Spoon orange juice over warm cake, in pan. Serve plain or with sour cream, whipped cream or ice cream.
