BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
2 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. almond extract
Grated peel of 1 lg. orange + 1 sm. lemon

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift flour, measure and sift again with baking soda. Beat in buttermilk and vanilla and almond extract. Put in grated orange and lemon peel.

Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube cake pan. Bake in 350°F oven for 1 hour.

Makes 10 to 12 servings.
