Thoroughly stir together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt; cut in 6 tablespoons butter until mixture is crumbly. Firmly pat mixture into ungreased 9 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Thoroughly stir together 1 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add 2 slightly beaten eggs and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla; mix well. Stir in 1 cup walnuts. Spread over baked layer. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Spread with lemon glaze while warm. Cool. Cut into bars. LEMON GLAZE: Combine 3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 1/2 tablespoons butter melted and 3 teaspoons lemon juice. Beat until smooth. |
