Hamburger combination placed in pie dough and deep fries. FILLING: 2 lbs. ground beef 2 tbsp. vegetable oil 1 can tomato soup or sauce 1 tbsp. onion powder or onion 1 tsp. garlic powder 1/2 tsp. salt DOUGH: 4 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 c. lard 1 c. ice water Oil for frying Combine beef in oil until brown. Stir in tomato sauce and seasonings. Add a little water, if needed. Cook 15 minutes. Cool while making dough. Combine flour and salt, cut in lard until crumbly. Drizzle water over and toss briskly until mixture holds together. Form into a ball. Divide dough and roll out. Using a saucer for a guide cut in circles. Place small amount (about 1 tablespoon) filling in each circle. Moisten pastry edges with cool water. Fold over and enclose filling. Press edges together with a fork and seal. Fry at 375 degrees about 3 minutes each side. Drain on paper towel. Serves 6 to 8. A big batch can be frozen and fried later. |
