3/4 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 1/3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda mixed with 1 c. sour milk

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs, vanilla and nutmeg. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Add alternately with baking soda mixed with milk. Drop by teaspoon on greased sheet. Pat flat and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees until light brown (about 8 minutes).
