WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. lard
3 c. white flour
3 c. whole wheat flour
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 c. warm water
1 c. scalded milk
1 c. cool water
(1/4 c. flour on board)

Soak yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt and melted lard in bowl. Add milk and water then add yeast mixture. Mix in the flour, 2 cups at a time until ready to knead - up to 5 cups. Put on bread board and knead, working in additional cup of flour. Place dough in greased bowl, cover with plastic and let rise for 2 hours (in oven with light on). Punch down and let rise again for 1 hour. Shape into 2 loaves, let rise for 1 hour. Bake for 45 minutes at 375 degrees.
