IRISH SODA BREAD | |
2 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 3 tbsp. softened butter 1/4 c. raisins 2 tsp. caraway seeds 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk Sift together flour, soda, baking powder, sugar and salt. Cut in butter. Add raisins, caraway seeds and milk. Mix thoroughly. Turn out on floured board and knead for 2 to 3 minutes. Place in greased 9 inch pie pan and spread evenly. Cut a cross on top with a sharp floured knife. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with butter. |
