HOLIDAY FRUIT COOKIES 
1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/2 c. sour milk
3 1/2 c. sifted enriched flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. broken pecans
2 c. candied cherries and pineapple, cut up (use red, green and yellow)
2 c. cut up dates

Combine shortening, brown sugar, and eggs; mix thoroughly. Stir in sour milk, then sifted dry ingredients. Stir in pecans, cherries, pineapple, and dates. Chill at least 1 hour.

Drop by rounded teaspoon fulls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes, until almost no imprint remains when lightly touched with fingertip.
