OLD FASHIONED SHORTCAKE | |
So easy and quick to make you'll never buy ready-made again! 2 c. unsifted flour 1/4 c. sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 3/4 c. milk 1. Set oven at 450 degrees. Lightly grease an 8"x8"x2" pan. 2. In a sifter placed in a large bowl, sift the dry ingredients. 3. Cut butter into chunks; add to flour mixture. With pastry blender or two knives used scissors-fashion, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. 4. Make a well in center of mixture. Pour in milk all at once; mix quickly, with fork until just moistened. 5. Turn into prepared pan. Lightly press out dough so that it fits corners of the pan and is even. 6. Bake 15 minutes or until golden. Loosen edges with a knife; then turn out on a wire rack. 7. Split and serve while warm for best results,; top with any fruit and whipped cream. Delicious. |
