HELEN'S DATE - NUT BREAD 
1 pkg. cut-up dates
1 egg
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour 1 cup boiling water over dates and sear. Beat egg and sugar until creamy. Sift together dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients, vanilla, nuts and dates to creamed mixture. Bake 55 minutes.
