CHOCO NUT CARAMEL BARS 
1 (11 1/2 oz.) pkg. Nestle milk chocolate morsels (divide in half)
2 tbsp. vegetable shortening
1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
5 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. water
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans

Line 8 inch square pan with foil before beginning. STEP 1: Melt one half of the chocolate morsels over hot (NOT BOILING) water along with 1 tablespoon shortening. Stir over low heat until morsels melt and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Pour into 8 inch pan and spread evenly. Refrigerate until firm (about 20 minutes.)

STEP 2: Combine over boiling water the caramels, butter and 2 tablespoons water.r Stir until caramels are smooth and melted. Stir in nuts until well blended. Pour on top of chocolate layer and spread evenly. Refrigerate until firm (about 30 minutes). REPEAT STEP ONE.

STEP 3: After spreading last layer evenly, return to refrigerate and chill until completely firm (about 1 hour). Cut in small squares. Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
