APPLE SLICE BARS 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 c. shortening (1/2 c. butter and 1/2 c. shortening)
1 tsp. salt
1 egg yolk
Milk
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 egg white
2/3 c. crushed corn flakes or graham cracker crumbs
5 c. sliced, peeled apples
1 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice

Sift together flour, sugar, salt, cut in shortening with pastry blender. Put egg yolk in cup, add milk to make 2/3 cup and add to shortening mixture and mix just enough to shape into a ball. Roll out 1/2 dough on floured board to fit 15 by 10 inch pan. Cover with the crumbs, then with apple slices. Mix sugar and cinnamon on apples. Roll out other 1/2 dough for top crush, pinch edges together. Beat egg white until stiff and spread on top crust. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees. While hot drizzle with following glaze made of 1 cup powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons lemon juice, may need more juice.
