DATE FILLED COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. Crisco shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
1/2 c. hot water
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

FILLING:

1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1 c. water
1 lb. dates

Mix together brown sugar, Crisco and eggs. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Add 1/2 cup hot water. Mix in sugar and egg mixtures. Add vanilla. Cook until gooey (not long) 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 cup water and dates, chopped. Spoon dough by tablespoons on cookie sheet. Flatten and put a spoonful of filling on cookie dough. Put a spoonful of dough on filling. Bake at 350 degrees, 10 to 12 minutes, or until done.
