DATE FILLED COOKIES 
2/3 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 unbeaten egg
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine and mix well. Sift together: 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder

Add to mixture alternately with 3 tablespoons milk. Chill dough 1 hour. Roll 1/8 inch thick and cut into rounds 1/8 inch thick. Add a dab of cooked dates on cookie and add another cookie round to top of this. Pinch together where dough meets and use fork to make holes in middle of cookie. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
