ENGLISH BROWN STEW 
1 lb. beef stew meat
2 1/2 c. boiling water
2 tbsp. chopped onion
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. paprika
Dash of allspice
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 c. tomato juice
1 c. pearl onions
1/2 c. sliced carrots
1 c. cubed potatoes
1/2 c. diced celery

Flour meat. Brown in hot fat. Add water, chopped onions, seasoning, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and tomato juice. Cover tightly and simmer 2 hours (can be done in the oven at 325 degrees). Add more water if needed. Add vegetables, continue cooking 30 minutes.
