DATE FILLED COOKIES 
FILLING:

2 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. water

Cook filling until smooth.

COOKIES:

1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs; beat. Add vanilla and water. Beat. Combine flour, salt, soda and cinnamon, add to creamed mixture and beat well. Drop 1/2 teaspoonful of dough on cookie sheet on dough 1/4 teaspoon date mixture and on top of that another 1/4 teaspoon dough. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. Should make 6 dozen cookies.
