FILLED DATE COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. milk
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
5 c. flour
4 tsp. cream of tartar
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Mix together and refrigerate for 2 hours. Roll out a little thicker than pie dough and cut with cookie cutters or glass.

Cook chopped date (16 oz.) with a little water, sugar, 1 tablespoon butter, and 1 tablespoon flour. Cool.

Place about 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. filling on a dough circle and top with another circle. Keep dough chilled between pans.

Bake 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. Cool thoroughly before storing. Freeze well.
