MY GRANDMOTHER'S HAMBURGERS | |
I serve these Hamburgers as a full meal with mashed potatoes, gravy and a vegetable. Great for a winter supper. 1/3 lb. ground beef 1/3 lb. ground veal 1/3 lb. ground pork 2 to 3 slices day old bread, crusts on broken into small pieces 1 egg salt pepper parsley flakes onion powder all spices and herbs, to taste cracker meal, for coating Crisco oil, for frying Place bread, herbs, spices and beaten egg in a large bowl. Allow bread to absorb egg. Add ground meats. Mix until well blended. Mixture should be a little soft to the touch. Form mixture into oval patties, (I get 7 to 8 medium sized burgers). In a 12-inch skillet, place oil (about 1/4-inch) and heat on medium high until hot. Dredge burgers in cracker meal and place in skillet. Let fry for 10 minutes on each side until golden brown and no longer pink in center. Serve while hot and crisp. Submitted by: Maryellen Engleman |
