EASY ENGLISH TOFFEE | |
1 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 lb. butter 8 Hershey bars 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1 1/2 c. walnuts, ground Melt butter in iron skillet, then add sugar and cream of tartar. Stir constantly over a medium fire about 10-15 minutes, or until mixture is medium colored caramel with dark streak throughout, 260 degrees on candy thermometer - hard ball. Put foil over a cookie sheet and then butter foil lightly. Have Hershey bars unwrapped and ready. After mixing spread over foil, then press Hershey bars down lightly on hot mixture. Spread chocolate over mixture when softened. Sprinkle finely ground nuts over all. |
