MENNONITE WEDDING BREAD | |
2 pkgs. yeast 1/2 c. warm water 2 c. flour 1 c. warm water 1/2 c. Crisco 1/2 c. butter 2 c. half and half 2 tsp. salt 2 c. sugar In a large bowl mix yeast that has been dissolved in the 1/2 cup warm water. Add flour and 1 cup warm water and mix well. Let stand covered for 1 hour. Heat Crisco, butter, half and half, salt and sugar in a pan until melted. Then cool. After yeast mixture has set 1 hour add 6 beaten eggs. Stir in cooled Crisco mixture. This will make a liquid dough. Add 1 cup flour at a time mixing well until dough is soft and elastic. Then knead this for a while adding flour as needed. Let rise in greased bowl. Punch down and let rise again. Divide dough into 4 or 5 balls and put into greased 9" pie plates. Let rise. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cool and frost and decorate with cherries and/or nuts. |
