CHRISTMAS FRUIT COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. light brown sugar
1 c. Crisco
2 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda (in a little water)
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. mace
2 c. raisins (or 1 c. each raisins & currants)
1 pt. jar mixed, crystalized fruit
1 c. nuts, broken

Cream together brown sugar and Crisco. Sift together dry ingredients. Mix all. This is a very heavy batter. Can be mixed easier with your hands. Bake as small drop cookies in hot oven, 375 degrees, just until lightly brown. Grease and flour cookie sheets. Watch most carefully. These burn easily.

I use all the fruit the dough will hold. This usually means an extra medium jar of cherries, a flat jar of pineapple and some extra peel. Makes 72 to 100 cookies.
