WALDORF-ASTORIA RED CAKE 
3 tbsp. cocoa
4 bottles red food coloring
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix cocoa and coloring in small bowl. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs together. Add the buttermilk, vanilla and the flour. Mix in another bowl, the vinegar, soda and the salt. Stir by hand all three mixtures together. Pour into 9 inch cake pans and bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.

RED CAKE FROSTING:

3 tbsp. flour
1 c. butter (2 sticks)
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook and cool completely the flour and the milk. Beat the butter, must be butter, powder sugar and the vanilla. Mix the two mixtures together until smooth and creamy.
