DATE LOAF CANDY 
3 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
1 tbsp. butter
4 c pecans or walnuts, chopped

Combine sugar, milk, and dates in a large saucepan; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, just until mixture reaches soft ball stage (234 degrees). Remove from heat; stir in butter and pecans. Divide mixture in half. Place each half on a damp tea towel; shape each into a 10 x 2 inch log. Roll logs up in towels and let cool at least 30 minutes. Unwrap logs and cut into slices. Yield: Two 10 inch logs.
