GRANDMA'S GINGER COOKIES 
2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening (big)
2 eggs
1 c. sour milk
2 tsp. ginger
1 bottle (12 fl. oz.) green label molasses, "Brer Rabbit" dark
3 tsp. baking soda
1 c. hot water
Approx. 2 c. flour

Mix together sugar and shortening. Add eggs, milk, ginger and molasses. Mix together baking soda and hot water. Add to creamed mixture. Add enough flour so that it is stiff enough to mix by hand. Roll 1/2 inch thick and cut. If you want drop cookies, add less flour. Bake on greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
