6 egg whites
1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
4 tbsp. chopped candied cherries
2/3 c. ground almonds
NOTE: Walnuts or filbert may be substituted

Heat oven to 250 degrees. Butter cookie sheets heavy.

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy. Beat in sugar gradually. Continue to beat on high until mixture stands in stiff peaks. Fold in cherries and nuts. Spoon heaping teaspoons onto cookie sheet. Bake 35-45 minutes until set but not brown.
