2 lbs. dates
1 sm. bottle red maraschino cherries
1 lb. Brazil nuts
1 lb. walnuts
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. cherry juice
4 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. melted shortening

Leave dates, nuts, and cherries whole. Sift together dry ingredients and mix with fruit and nuts. Add cherry juice and vanilla, then blend in beaten eggs and melted shortening. Bake in lined and greased loaf pan at 300 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours. Use 6 ounces pecans for trimming on top.
