MY MOTHER'S NEW ENGLAND
VEGETABLE CHOWDER
 
1/4 c. butter
1 c. diced celery
1 c. diced carrots
2 tbsp. grated onion
1 1/2 c. cooked or canned whole kernel corn
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. salt
Pinch of pepper
1 tsp. sugar
4 c. milk
1 c. cooked or canned peas
2 tbsp. chopped parsley
1 c. grated American cheese

Melt butter, add celery, carrots, onion, corn, water, salt, pepper and sugar. Cover, cook 1 hour. Add milk and peas. Heat. Add parsley. Sprinkle with cheese.
