TORTE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
2 tsp. baking powder
Pinch salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. milk
1 c. flour (sifted)

Cream butter and sugar, beat egg yolks in. Add baking powder, salt, vanilla, milk and flour. Put in a greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans. Then add topping.

TOPPING:

6 egg whites
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. sugar

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff. Then add 1/4 cup sugar at a time and beat in until gone. Put on top of first mixture. You may add nuts if you wish. Bake at 325 for 35 minutes.

FILLING:

2 egg yolks
1/4 c. sugar
1 tbsp. flour (heaping)
1 c. milk

Cook until thick, cool. When cake is cool, put one layer turned over, then 1/2 of filling, then other cake, then second 1/2 of filling.
