APPLE STRUDEL | |
2 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 c. shortening 1 egg yolk and milk to measure 2/3 c. Mix flour, salt and shortening with pastry knife (like pie dough). Beat egg yolk with milk and add to flour mixture. Roll 1/2 of dough to fit 11 x 14 inch jelly roll pan (greased and floured). 8 c. thinly sliced apples, peeled and cored 3/4 to 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 egg white Spread apples on prepared pastry. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples - sweeter apples require less sugar. Roll left over 1/2 dough to cover top. Brush egg white over top. Cut slits over top. Bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Delicious! Serves 12-16. ICING: 1 c. sifted powdered sugar 3-4 tsp. milk Mix to make glaze. Drizzle over top of still warm strudel. |
